Modalities.
Below are specific modalities used throughout sessions (often in non-obvious and non-linear ways) dependent on your needs and goals.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a trauma-informed therapy that helps you explore the different “parts” of yourself that carry anxiety, stress, or emotional pain. This approach promotes emotional healing by helping you better understand inner conflicts (ex. a part of you that feels angry, also a part of you that feels guilty) and fostering a sense of integration and wholeness. IFS can be beneficial for trauma recovery, managing anxiety and depression, improving relationships, and supporting overall mental health and wellbeing.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach that helps you develop practical coping skills for anxiety, depression, stress, and overwhelming thoughts so you're not constantly feeling consumed or pulled away from the person you want to be. ACT supports you in building emotional resilience, navigating difficult feelings, and taking small steps that align with your personal values and goals. This type of therapy is helpful for anxiety treatment, specific goals, burnout, life transitions, and improving overall mental health and psychological flexibility.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach commonly used to support anxiety, depression, stress, and low self-esteem. CBT helps you recognize unhelpful thinking patterns, develop practical coping skills so you can feel more in control of your thoughts, consequently shifting feelings so that you can approach situations with greater confidence.
Art Psychotherapy, Creative Interventions
Art Therapy is a creative, trauma-informed therapy that uses drawing, painting, and other art materials to support emotional expression and mental health healing. You don’t need any art experience to benefit. Art Therapy is often used for anxiety, trauma processing, stress reduction, grief, and mind-body connection. This approach helps you explore difficult emotions in a safe, grounded, and non-verbal way, supporting deep healing and improved emotional wellbeing.
Compassion-Focused Therapy
Compassion-Focused Therapy is a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach that helps people who struggle with anxiety, depression, stress, and feelings of shame or self-criticism. CFT teaches emotional regulation tools that can calm your nervous system so you can respond to difficult thoughts and feelings with self-compassion and greater kindness, instead of fear, judgment and criticism. This modality is generously interwoven into the style of therapy that Sally offers.
Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT)
Emotionally Focused Therapy helps people repair and deepen their emotional bonds by focusing on what matters most -their attachment needs. Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, EFT creates a safe space where vulnerable emotions are expressed and responded to, leading to greater trust, resilience, and secure connection within themselves and with other safe people.
Attachment Theory
The type of attachments (relationships) we had in our early years are instrumental as they provided a blueprint for how we view and engage in our present day relationships with friends, family or loved ones. I come with a posture of curiosity about my client's earliest connections (with their caregivers/parents) so that we can better understand how this may impact the way we feel and behave to those closest to us.
