Approach.
Anti-Oppressive & Anti-Racist Practice
As a settler of a colonized country with a violent past and present, I consider how we are placed in already existing systems of power & oppression, which inevitably impacts our position in society. I try to be conscious of how bigger systems are at play and the implications of this on our daily lives so we become aware and possibly shift this narrative.

Compassion and Mindfulness
Fostering greater compassion towards oneself and others can help with overwhelming emotions such as anxiety and depression. Integrating mindfulness exercises with compassion focused approaches provides tangible tools to safely distance ourselves from hard thoughts/feelings and view them with greater curiosity and a source of information, rather than with judgement.

Trauma-informed Approach
I understand trauma's pervasive impact on our mind and body and how trauma experienced in childhood can interfere with building trusting relationships present day. I provide clients with interventions to restore their relationship with themselves and learn new ways of engaging with others. I draw from approaches such as Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, Compassionate Inquiry and Internal Family systems, which are all experiential forms of therapy to support clients from a trauma-informed lens.

Relationship and Attachment Theory Focused
The type of attachments we had in our early years are instrumental to how we show up in our present day relationships as these former attachments act as a blueprint. I come with a posture of curiosity about my client's earliest connections (perhaps with their caregivers/parents) so that we can better understand how this may impact the way we feel and behave to those closest to us.

Art Psychotherapy
If you're open, there may be moments we can integrate art into our work to gain deeper awareness, tap into our inner child and learn new coping strategies. Art not only includes visual arts but poetry, story-telling, symbolism, journaling and more. There are no limits to creative expression. Feel free to ask how this might look like together!
